Health Insurance

Introduction

A goal among many human service providers in San Luis Obispo County is for every child to have health insurance. In order to accomplish this, there are government subsidized health insurance programs that work to ensure that children and families in need receive coverage.

Low Cost Health Insurance

MEDI-CAL is health insurance for children up to 21 and in some cases parents. Depending on eligibility, you may qualify for no-cost or share of cost Medi-Cal.

HEALTHY FAMILIES is low cost insurance for children under the age of 19 with premiums from $4. to $32. a month. There are no co-payments for preventive services (such as immunizations) and only a $10. co-pay for many other services

To apply for Healthy Families, call The LINK at (805) 466-5404, or the San Miguel Community Support Center at (805) 712-5327.

HEALTHY KIDS is a program offered through SLO County Children’s Health Initiative that is designed to provide health insurance to children who do not qualify for no-cost Medi-Cal or Healthy Families.

For more information about who qualifies, you can also call your local Department of Social Services Office, or the Childrens Health Initiative in SLO at  540-5177.

There are also low cost clinics who provide health services throughout the county both for adults and children.  The North County Resource Guide lists many of these providers.  To get a copy of this guide call The LINK at 466-5404.
